The Public Hearing for the Property Tax Increase and the regularly scheduled Work Session for Monday, August 1, 2016 have been changed to Monday, August 8, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. for the Public Hearing and 7:00 p.m. for the Work Session. 

There will also be a called meeting prior to the Work Session in the City Hall Council Chambers at 102 S. Main Street.  




The City of Sylvester City Council has tentatively adopted a 2016 millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 38.07 percent. 

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held at the City of Sylvester City Hall, 102 S Main Street, Sylvester, GA on August 1, 2016 6:30 P.M.  

The tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 7.253 mills, and increase of 2.0 mills.  Without this tentative tax increase, the millage will be no more than 5.253 mills.  The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $ 100,000 is approximately $ 80.00 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $ 300,000 is approximately $ 240.00.



The City of Sylvester Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing at the Sylvester Public Works Facility at 202 South Main Street at 7:00 P.M., the 2nd day of August, 2016.

Notice of Public Hearing 

To consider a request by:  Hal Carter & Ford Brothers LTD & Greenbriar Church 

 to rezone certain properties from C-2 to C-2 Conditional Use (A)-Church

Said properties described as follows:

Location described as all that tract or parcel of land lying and being in Land Lot 357 of the 7th land district in the City of Sylvester, Worth County, Georgia and being 2.972 acres as shown on a plat of survey dated December 11, 2015 and as identified on Tax Map 74 Parcel 19 (907 E. Franklin St).At the Public Hearing the Sylvester Planning Commission will make a recommendation to be submitted to the Mayor and Council.

The Mayor and Council will hold a Public Hearing at the Sylvester City Hall Board Room, at 

6:45 P.M. on the 15th of August, 2016

At that time the Mayor and Council will consider the recommendation of the Sylvester Planning Commission and make their decision on the zoning application.
